IIM Lucknow signed an MoU with National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) on 22 June 2026 to foster collaboration and research.
Both the institutions will collaborate in the areas of:
# Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
# Disaster Financing
# Resilient Infrastructure
# Capacity Building
# Research, and Academic Development
Presence
Prof. Satyabhusan Dash, Dean, Noida Campus, IIM Lucknow, and Col. Vineet Banga, Joint Director, NIDM signed the MoU.
The MoU signing ceremony took place during the inaugural session of the national-level training programmes on Disaster Mitigation Finance & Resilient Infrastructure and Disaster Mitigation & Mitigation Fund, which is being attended by senior government officials and disaster management practitioners from 23 states across India.
The pact was signed in the presence of Prof. Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, Chairperson (MoU) from IIM Lucknow, Madhup Vyas, Executive Director, Prof. Navneet Kumar, Prof. Amir Ali Khan, and Dr. Preeti Soni, Senior Consultant from NIDM.
Joint expertise
The joint expertise of IIM Lucknow and NIDM is expected to do a lot.
The proficiency of both the institutions in the areas of disaster management, management education, leadership, finance, policy and research will pave way for creating innovative solutions for sustainable development.
Research initiatives
Prof. Satyabhusan Dash said this collaboration will aim at promoting disaster resilience through joint research initiatives, and knowledge exchange between the two institutions.
He emphasised that collective efforts from IIM Lucknow and NIDM's will significantly support informed policymaking for a disaster-resilient India.
Key areas for collaboration
What are the main areas for collaboration under this Memorandum-of-Understanding? They are:
·Capacity-building and training programmes on Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Financing for government officials, policymakers, practitioners, and corporate leaders.
·Joint international conferences, symposiums, and academic forums on disaster management, climate resilience, risk governance, and sustainable development.
·Development of joint Certificate, Diploma, Executive Education, Postgraduate, and PhD programmes in disaster risk reduction, disaster financing, and related domains.
·Collaborative research initiatives involving faculty members, researchers, and students from both institutions.
·Organization of academic and professional training programmes, workshops, seminars, and knowledge-sharing platforms.
·Collaboration in training, research, education, extension activities, and policy advocacy to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience.
Alignment
This collaboration expected to turn into a milestone in mitigating disaster risks and managing them effectively by aligning with Disaster Management Act, 2005, and Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030), along with Prime Minister of India’s Ten-Point Agenda on Disaster Risk Reduction and Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.
